Fort Campbell straddles the Tennessee-Kentucky state line, with the main gates accessible from Clarksville, TN (Gates 1, 4, and 7) and Oak Grove, KY (Gate 3). The installation is home to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), the 5th Special Forces Group, and the 160th SOAR (Night Stalkers).

Most Fort Campbell families live off-post in Clarksville. The rental and housing market is competitive — start your search 60–90 days before your report date if possible. Tennessee has no state income tax, which helps stretch your BAH further.

Neighborhoods by Gate
Choose your neighborhood based on which gate is closest to your unit. All times are approximate off-peak.
Rossview
Top-rated schools, newer construction, family-friendly. One of the most sought-after areas in Clarksville.
New Providence
Closest off-post neighborhood to the main gate. Mix of older and newer housing. Very convenient for daily commutes.
Sango
Premium suburban area in northeast Clarksville. Newer homes, top schools, and a quieter lifestyle. Popular with senior NCOs and officers.
Downtown Clarksville
Historic, walkable, and growing fast. Best for soldiers and families who want to be close to restaurants, arts, and city life.
Windermere / Exit 11
Great for Nashville commuters. Easy I-24 access in both directions. Mix of established and newer neighborhoods.
Gate 4 — T.C. Freeman Gate — is the most-used gate for Clarksville residents. Rossview and Sango neighborhoods are closest.
Schools
Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS)
CMCSS serves over 40,000 students across 50+ schools and is one of the largest school systems in Tennessee. It has a dedicated Military Family Liaison and School Liaison Officer (SLO) to help military families with mid-year transfers, enrollment, and credit transfers.
Higher Education
Austin Peay State University (APSU) is a four-year public university in downtown Clarksville with strong military support programs, including MyCAA and GI Bill processing. Volunteer State Community College offers affordable two-year programs and transfer pathways.
